canon updates

QUICK NAV: LOGS ⚔️️ NETWORK ⚔️️ MEMES ⚔️️ OOC ⚔️️ NAVIGATION

Please submit the following form for canon updates:

Player Name:
Character Name:
Name of Canon:
New Canon Point: Episode, chapter, event title, whatever best describes it. This should be less than 5 words.
Are there any large characterization changes that would change how you play this character in Isle of Avalon? If so, explain them. Do not write a full history of your character's canon.
New Learned Skills: Powers may be nerfed, but if your character learned a new human-level skill, they are welcome to retain those gains in Avalon.
Anything Else? Is there anything else you think we should know in addition to the above information?

Please submit the following form for CRAU updates:
Player Name:
Character Name:
Name of Canon:
CRAU Game(s): You can do multiple DWRP games if your character went to them. List in chronological order.
New CRAU Update Info: Provide history and any changes in perspective/personality that your character has experienced. We do not have access to all games and threads to know what occurred, so please include all information. Remember that mods do not have access to all other games/threads you had, so if this section includes jargon you would only know if you were in the game, be sure to provide context and definitions.
New Learned Skills: Powers may be nerfed, but if your character learned a new human-level skill in the game you are CRAUing them from, they are welcome to retain those gains in Avalon.
Anything Else? Is there anything else you think we should know in addition to the above information?

REMINDERS:
  • Canon updates occur ICly in the following manner:
Because time is frozen outside of Avalon, canon updates will be more like memory rebuilds. Your character was simply lacking current memories, which their familiar noticed and puts your character to sleep for a full day to attempt to re-strengthen their bond with the character to help them regain those memories. This can happen as many times as the player wants.
This means that characters do not gain new inventory upon canon updates. If you would like to gain new items from your canon updates, please see the rewards page for more information about Home Regains.

  • To update to new canon content, the new content must be at least 1 month old. This is to respect other players who may not have had the chance to play, watch, or read new content yet. After 1 month, we still ask that you mark spoilers accordingly.

  • Mods have the right to nerf any skill gains if they are deemed to be more along the lines of powers/magic or would somehow be worldbreaking. As far as we can tell, any human-level skills would not be able to do that, so this is mostly just a disclaimer in case something comes up that we didn't think of.

  • If your character would've gained new scars/height/other physical appearance changes in a canon update, you can choose to have Avalon's natural magic update it for them while they sleep so you can still have body alterations even though your character doesn't leave.

    PLAYER NAME: Frudence
    CHARACTER: Hitoshi Shinsou
    CANON: My Hero Academia
NEW CANON POINT: Ch. 216 / Ep. 100
    INFORMATION:
Forest Training Camp Arc - While the main cast are training in the Forest with the Wild Wild Pussycats, Aizawa / Eraserhead approached Shinsou and offered to start training him. During the Sports Festival, Aizawa recognized the same potential - and limitations - in Shinsou that Aizawa himself had: his Quirk is incredibly powerful, but it's all mental, and doesn't help him if he gets into close-quarters fighting. "How effective this Quirk is... is up to me" comes up quite often.

Therefore, Aizawa gave Shinsou the opportunity to start learning how to use the "Capture Weapon" around his neck, the whip-like fighting style as well as immobilization technique. This intramural training has the added benefit of helping Shinsou bulk up physically and enhance his reaction time.

Provisional Hero License Exam Arc - Nothing significant. Shinsou begins his 2nd semester at UA alongside General Studies 1-C and continues training outside of class with Aizawa.

U.A. School Festival Arc - Shinsou's class spends the time designing a Haunted House, which brings him a bit closer to his General Studies classmates at the same time he is working to leave them "behind" in order to change to the Hero Course. While this weighs on his mind, he doesn't waver in his goal. His final contribution on the day of the Festival includes popping down from a ceiling in the Haunted House with blood dripping from him.

Joint Training Arc - He has a major role here. The basis of this arc is giving all of Class 1-A and Class 1-B a chance to fight head-to-head. Broken down into 4-man teams, each team from 1-A (the main characters) would get to fight a team from 1-B. The fight simulated each team aiming to capture the members of the other team, as if they were Villains, so 4 captures was a win.

In the midst of this training, Shinsou is re-introduced to 1-A and 1-B along with a condition that the teachers have come up with: Shinshou's performance during this training would determine Shinsou's fitness to enter the Hero Course, but Shinsou would be the only person who had to fight twice. He had to fight with a team from 1-A and a team from 1-B. Additionally, while the rest of the students had a full prototype of Hero gear to wear during the training, Shinsou didn't have a costume - just granted the use of 2 items. One was the Capture Weapon, and another was the only customized Item that could be made for him on short notice: Persona Cords. (*He already has both of these in Avalon, but he didn't know what they were for.)

The full breakdown of the fights - and what Shinsou learned from them - can be found on his Wiki page, but there were several key takeaways that affect his personality going forward:
    • While still a classic tsundere, there were several small moments of praise from individual members of Class 1-A and 1-B, helping bolster his confidence. They all boiled down to "You're not as behind as you think you are." More to the point, his determination for improvement helped him start to catch up.
    • Shinsou has been very focused on individual performance. So when his team wins the first match, he thinks they carried him. When his team loses the second fight, in part because Shinsou gets captured, he blames himself. This is the difference that "experience" (in real combat scenarios) makes, he realizes, but it also puts into perspective his capacity as a Support-style Hero, rather than being what he's not good at: a front-line fighter. This Support role requires more teamwork and less brusqueness, which starts to open Shinsou up to friendship opportunities within 1-A and 1-B, rather than seeing them only as rivals to be jealous of.
    • Instead of only using his Quirk against opponents, Shinsou gets to see how using his Quirk on an ally can retake control of a situation rapidly spiraling out of control, such as an unpredictable Quirk rampage. This gives him insight into one of the major tenants of Hero work: you don't just fight Villains, you also need to save lives.
    • The importance of mentorship and experience. To learn from every single encounter and improve is a good trait in a Hero, but taking advantage of those willing to support you is as well. In lieu of Aizawa, if he can find another mentor, then he should.

The last thing Shinsou is aware of, the teachers declare that he performed well enough to enter the Hero Course, fulfilling Shinsou's dream in a way that leaves him positively stunned. He returns to Avalon later that day.
